A University of Delaware art faculty member helped lead a 'cultural mapping' of an Amazon rainforest people in Peru. The project goes way beyond the photographs he collaborated on and which are now on view at the Old College Gallery.
The photographs only tell part of the story. The story is the culture of an entire people.
An exhibit currently at the University of Delaware features the Ese’Eja of the Amazon rainforest. The show is on view through Dec. 9. Less certain is how long the Ese’Eja culture will last.
Visitors will find what appears to be a traditional photo exhibit. What is not immediately obvious, though, is that the photographs are part of a wider cultural mapping – collecting, recording and cataloging – all aspects of the threatened Ese’Eja.
