Admission to the Department of Art & Design is a two-part application process that requires a digital portfolio for the department review and completion of the common application to the University. Once a student is accepted to the Department and the University he/she is admitted as a BA Art Major.

Upon successful completion of the two-year core program, a student may choose to pursue one of the following three degree programs:

BA in Art degree

BFA in Fine Arts (FA)

BFA in Visual Communications (VC)

All degree programs require a portfolio review and completion of the two-year core credit requirements or approved equivalents from another program. Art majors are required to receive a grade of C- or better in all art courses and maintain at least a 2.66 GPA in art courses to continue in the degree path.

Application deadline is January 15.

All undergraduate art applicants offered acceptance to the Department are considered for the Calloway Scholarship ranging from $2,000 to $6,000 per year. The criteria:

  • Academic merit, as determined by the various aspects of the admissions process with more than half of the accepted art majors qualifying for academic merit.

  • Artistic talent, which is determined by the ranking from the Department Portfolio Review Committee

  • Financial need, as determined by the FAFSA process

All undergraduate financial aid and scholarship programs are managed and decided by the Office of Student Financial Services.

The University of Delaware offers generous financial aid assistance to graduate students. The Department of Art & Design is able to give merit-based Graduate Teaching Assistantships (tuition waiver plus a stipend in exchange for teaching and service) and Block Tuitions (tuition waiver plus the possibility of adjunct teaching). The Department works diligently to help support our MFA students and has, historically, been able to fund nearly three-quarters of our students. Please refer to the Office of Graduate & Professional Education for more information.
